Mark your calendars now for this coming Monday…October 1st is National Homemade Cookie Day! (And yes, store-bought cookie dough baked at home also counts!)

Also coming up:

No Hunger Holiday (Throughout October and November): If you were at church this past Sunday, you know that we launched our Thanksgiving service project, No Hunger Holiday, in partnership with Knights of Columbus. We have set the goal to feed 600 families via Ritenour Co-Care.

This project will have a few phases. Phase one is collecting donations for the dinners. Thanks to a partnership with Knights of Columbus, we are able to provide a meal to a family for just $4, regardless of the size of the family.

Click here to make a donation now.

You can choose to make a donation to feed one family ($4), five families ($20), or 12 families ($48). Donations will be accepted through October 17th; you can also sign up and donate in person at church service for the next three Sundays. Donations of cash, check, or charge will be accepted in person; credit/debit cards are accepted online.

THE WEEKLY

NoSchool]

Gateway,

My kids came home from their first day of school today. All summer, I’ve heard about how in 8th grade they pile on the homework, to prep the kids for the workload in high school. Autumn and I had a conversation awhile back about study habits, and how she plans to tackle assignments as soon as she gets home. So I had expected that I would walk through the door finding Autumn nose-to-the-grindstone, hard at work on various review sheets.

Instead, she was sprawled out on the couch watching a sitcom….
“Autumn, how was your first day?”
“Pretty good. I have a bunch of teachers this year that don’t believe in homework.”
“WHAT?!”

Yes, it’s true. My daughter has discovered the academic equivalent of a unicorn. A middle school schedule with no homework (at least for now). She did indeed have a “pretty good” day.

While I don’t have any “homework” per se for you, I do have a few reminders of upcoming events…

Men’s Breakfast (Saturday August 18th, 9:30am): Denny’s at Dorsett and 270! All men and their sons are invited to partake in Grand Slams, pancakes, coffee, and orange juice.

Living Water- Mandatory Volunteer Training (Sunday August 19th, 11:30am): If you have signed up to volunteer, we ask that you make plans to attend the training following church this coming Sunday. Lunch (pizza, salad, and other goodies) will be served. Expect that it will take about two hours.

Also, a few days remain to register! Go HERE to register yourself if you plan on attending the morning session, or HERE if you have a friend that would benefit from attending the full day.

Cardinals Outing Early Registration Deadline (Sunday August 19th): Early registration also ends this Sunday! Registering early will enter you for a chance to win one of several Cardinals memorabilia prizes.

The game is on Sunday, September 23rd, at 1:15pm. Tickets are just $12 each and include a hot dog, soda, and other fun giveaways at the park. Don’t miss this fun family event!

Fall Save-The-Dates…more about these events soon:
Congregational Devotional (Friday September 14th, 7pm)
