Rejoice, Gateway!

This Friday is National S’mores Day. Whether toasted, baked, or microwaved, take time on Friday to indulge and give thanks to the Campfire Girls for creating this sticky-gooey treat. It also happen to be “National Lazy Day”…but I’m sure this is purely a coincidence.

Good news, friends!

The sermons are now up to date on both the website and the app. If you missed John Lusk’s sermon last Sunday or any of the sermons from the previous six weeks, you can now listen to the audio online. Extra special thanks to Phil Freeman, who uploaded these amidst moving and preparing for his wedding next month. 🙂

Donation to the Gloria Baird Fund: You may already know that Gloria Baird passed away recently. She and her husband Al have helped many in their decades of service to the church, including some of our own in St. Louis. In lieu of flowers, the Baird has requested donations to HOPE worldwide, and Gateway City Church has made a donation in her memory.

Upcoming events (besides the Hawkinses coming to town this weekend):

Marrieds and Singles Night Out (Saturday, July 28, 4:30 – 9pm): YES! Vince and Robin Hawkins will be in attendance at this event, at least for part of it. All marrieds and singles are invited to join us. Riverside Shelter at Cliff Cave Park (806 Cliff Cave Road, Saint Louis, MO 63129). No RSVP is necessary for this event, just show up by yourself or with a date and your dinner!

Living Water Conference (Saturday, August 25th, 8am – 2pm): Plans are definitely coming along but there are three key ways that we need your help:

  1. Pray and Invite. Jesus says in John 4:13, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a sting of water welling up to eternal life.” Please pray for women that are thirsting for Jesus to come to Living Water! ! If you would like to invite someone, you can use the website HERE, or you can share our paper flyer and registration (respectively, HERE and HERE.)
  2. Volunteer (day-of, women only): Thank you to those of you who have already signed up! Pre and post event spots are full. Ladies, if you would like to volunteer to help at the actual event. you can go HERE to sign up to help the day of the event. Day-of volunteers are needed for food prep and serving, childcare, greeting/ushering, and other duties.
  3. Shop for our gift baskets. For those of you who have already signed up, THANK YOU! Please remember to bring your items to church this coming Sunday or next Sunday. We still need a few more items; you can go HERE to select a shopping list.

Women’s Cafe Night – Friday, September 21st

Greetings, Gateway!

In our house, summertime = POOLS AND SPRINKLERS! Most of us have a couple of places that we frequent over the summer, but if you are looking for a new swimming hole, this list might help. Fun fact: Through this summer, admission to the Maryland Heights Aquaport is half price after 5pm, both for residents and non-residents.

Speaking of water….

Since last week’s email, we’ve received a couple questions about this conference that we wanted to answer:

Who is this conference for? This conference will mark a lot of “firsts” for Gateway, one being that we are hosting this conference for the community!

We are hosting this conference primarily for women who:

  • Are homeless mothers or unwed mothers
  • Are survivors of sex traffilcking
  • Are survivors of physical or sexual abuse

Our goal is for this conference to not just be a one-day event, but an introduction to a new community that will offer support, inspiration, faith, and friendship. We want to help these women and children become God-reliant, and support their journey towards healing and self-sufficiency.

How can I help these women and children? There are MANY opportunities for both men and women to support the Living Water Conference! Here are the four top ways:

1. PRAY. Nothing is more important than prayer! Please pray for wisdom, energy, and creativity for those who are involved in the planning and preparation. Also pray for our conference attendees, that our Father would send us women and children who thirst to know His love.

2. INVITE. If you know of women who would benefit from Living Water, please do invite them.

3. VOLUNTEER. Both men and women are needed! Men are needed for set-up and tear-down, women for the actual event. You can sign up for shifts here.

4. DONATE. We are collecting donations for:

  • Gift basket items – Click here to pick a shopping list.
  • Gently used spiritual books and new journals  – Can drop off in the bins at church.
  • Monetary donations – Individuals can become Partners in Hope by making a monetary donation of any size. Click here to access the sponsor form. Enter your contact info at the top, and then scroll down to the “Individual Sponsors” section.

Search Committee Update: This past Sunday, the Search Committee had a phone interview with a second candidate, and they are in the process of setting a date for a weekend visit. A third couple has also applied in the last few days, and they will have a phone interview with the committee next Monday.

The Lusks will be here this weekend! John Lusk will be preaching on Sunday. Following church service, there will be an extended time of fellowship where all members can meet and greet John and Barri. Light refreshments will be provided for all.

Our Search Committee fasts every Monday and they invite all Gateway members to do the same. Please continue to pray for the search and for the couple that God has “set apart” for the work in St. Louis.

Marrieds and Singles Picnic (Saturday July 28th, 4:30pm): Good news! We will have an ice cream truck onsite for this event, with frozen treats available for purchase. Please do use the above graphic to invite your friends.

Titus 2 (Saturday, August 4th, 9:30pm): Melissa Pickens will be our guest speaker. Childcare will be provided and light refreshments will be available.

See you on Sunday!

Click here to take the survey now.

Thank you to all of you who have already taken time to complete the survey, either online or via the paper forms last Sunday. Here’s what else is coming….

The marrieds and singles will be gathering at the Riverside Shelter at Cliff Cave Park (806 Cliff Cave Rd). No RSVP is necessary, just show up with your lawnchairs, dinner, and beverages. A single grill is available for those who would like to cook onsite.

Invite your friends! This event is open to all marrieds and singles; feel free to share the above image on social media or text.

See you on Friday!

Hello friends,

Confession time: As you are reading this, I am nowhere near my computer, the church, or even St. Louis! I’ve pre-scheduled this email to go out on Wednesday morning. At the time this is being sent, I’ll be on day 2 of my rookie year as an HKK counselor, probably eating french toast sticks and orange juice for breakfast with my fifth grade girls cabin. The kids will be getting mail at camp from their families, but the counselors would love encouragement too! If you know an HKK counselor please do send them a text or email while they are at camp. Most likely they’ll get it after they leave on Saturday (there’s almost no cell service at Eagle Rock), but it’ll be a nice surprise on the drive home.

Just a couple things for this week:

Congregational Devotional (Friday, June 29th 7pm): Apologies for the short notice on this meeting but we do ask that you please do join us if you can. Childcare will be provided.

Alzheimer’s Association Meeting (Sunday, July 22nd, 12:30pm – 1:30pm): Please join us for a presentation titled The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s. This is a comprehensive overview of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease that includes information on diagnosis, progression, treatment, resources and support. There will be time for questions following the presentation. Contact Julie Schroeder with questions (

Business Directory: Just a reminder for our member/business owners that we are still accepting submissions for our church business directory. If you own a business and would like to be featured (free advertising…WOO HOO!) please contact Deb Selzle (

That’s it for now! See you on Sunday.
