It’s coming, Gateway!

Christmas is approaching, which means that the 2018 Gateway Family Christmas Banquet is just around the corner. I spent the day on the phone with various people and finalizing the registration and menu details. I have a few eagle-eye helpers are reviewing my work, and we plan to announce all the details this coming Sunday at church. For now, mark your calendars for Friday December 7th, 6-10pm. More to come on Sunday.

But before that…we have other upcoming events:

No Hunger Holiday: How’s your outreach going? Please do continue to share the opportunity to donate turkeys with others. Click HERE for all the details, the link to the sign-up, and access to printable flyers and business letters. Online donations will be accepted through Sunday, November 11th, or donate in person on November 17th and 18th.

Soup Night (Friday November 2nd, 6:30pm): We need just one more Souper Hero! If you would like to bring a dessert, sign up HERE. All are invited to bring a soup or chili to share; bring enough for at least 6-8 people. Please also bring a serving utensil for your soup. Plan to arrive by 6:30; dinner will be served at 6:45.

Titus 2 Slide
Titus 2 Women (Saturday November 10th, 9:30am): Ladies, this will be the final Titus 2 class. As in, no more after this one. As in, don’t miss it! Our own Robin Hawkins will be teaching her lesson titled, “By Faith”. Age teen and up are welcome to join us; childcare will be provided. Please do share the above image and invite your friends!

That’s all for now, see you on Sunday.

Fall Festival is this Saturday, Gateway (October 20th, 5pm – 9pm)!

We’re looking forward to seeing you all there (in costume!). Doors will open at 5pm. If you RSVP’d, you’ll get a complimentary s’mores packet at the door when you arrive. Dinner will be served at 6pm, with games and other fun activities taking place 5pm-9pm.

We still need just a few more volunteers for setup and tear down! A minor correction…festival setup is actually 9am-12pm on Saturday morning. The form has been updated accordingly. If you are able to help out for part or all of that time, please do sign up, or just show up on Saturday morning!

Other upcoming events:

Men’s Breakfast (Saturday October 20th, 9am): All men and their sons are invited to the final Men’s Breakfast of the year, at Denny’s near Dorsett and 270. Men’s Breakfasts will resume in January of 2019; dates will be coming soon.

No Hunger Holiday: Phase 2 is in full swing and donations have started to come in for our virtual turkey drive! I’ve heard from some of you that your workplaces will be participating in No Hunger Holiday, while others of you are making plans to canvas your respective neighborhoods. Just a reminder that you can find printable resources on our website HERE, or you can contact me to arrange a pickup time for copies printed at the church. We’ll have an update for you on donations collected this coming Sunday.

Soup Night (Friday, November 2nd, 6:30pm): BIG THANKS to those of you who have already signed up to be SOUPER HEROES! If you are able to bring bread or a dessert in addition to your soup or chili, please sign up here. We are looking for just 10 people to bring a dessert for 10 people, plus three people each who are willing to bring corn bread or bread rolls for the group.

Congregational Christmas Banquet (Friday December 7th, 6:30pm)

If some of you are a little sleepy today, it’s understandable….last night’s Rockies vs. Cubs game broke the record on the longest “winner-take-all” game in MLB history.

But although it was long game, the record for the longest game ever still stands. There are a few ways to measure this, but in terms of time the longest game was May 8th, 1984, Chicago White Sox vs. Milwaukee Brewers. The game took 8 hours and 6 minutes to play, 25 innings, and had to be completed over 2 days!

And the shortest 9-inning game? September 28, 1919. New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Phillies. 51 minutes.

A few events coming up (none lasting more than a few hours!):
