He’s here! Matthias Anthony Blair was born this morning (Aug 31), at 5:19am. 9 pounds, 12 ounces, 21.75 inches. Mom and baby are both doing great..the Blair family thanks you for their prayers!

New Members’ Dinner: All those who have been baptized, restored or moved into Gateway in the past year are invited to attend our annual New Members’ Dinner on Saturday, September 10th at 6pm (main campus). We hope to honor you as our new brothers and sisters, and inform you about our history, serving opportunities and ministry roles within our family.

Titus 2 Class: Teacher change! Stephanie Stuppy will be teaching the upcoming Titus 2 class on Saturday, September 17th.  Fellowship and light refreshments at 9:30am and lesson at 10:00am.  More details on the class topic will be communicated soon.

FALL FLING! September 25th, 1pm – 4pm. The format will be changing from what was previously announced…more details to come.

Women’s Rustic Retreat: October 21st – 22, at the Babler Outdoor Eduction Center in Babler Park (Wildwood, MO). Cost is $50 per person and includes twin bed accommodations and all meals. More details and sign-up will be announced soon.

THE WEEKLY: Friday’s Devotional + HOPE, Baton Rouge

A few details about Friday night’s devotional:

  • 7-9pm. Fellowship for the first half hour and then program will begin at 7:30.
  • Childcare will be available for kids infant – 5th grade, and will open at 7:15.
  • We’ll have singing, prayer, and Tyler and Jason will lead a lesson titled “Getting Back on Track”.
  • We’ll also be collecting school supplies for our fall HOPE project (see below for more details).

HOPE worldwide – Baton Rouge Service Opportunity
As you probably saw in the news, the city of Baton Rouge was devastated with recent flooding. HOPE worldwide is organizing volunteers for a Labor Day weekend volunteer effort. Housing and food will be provided, but you must sign up no later than Tuesday, August 30th. If you can travel to Baton Rouge over Labor Day weekend and would like to help, click here for more information and to sign up.

Baton Rouge Service Opportunity

Gateway family: If you are interested in volunteering in Baton Rouge over Labor Day Weekend, please read the letter below for important details and to sign up. Please note, you MUST sign up no later than Tuesday, August 30th.

We are inviting any interested HOPE worldwide volunteers to travel to Baton Rouge & Denham Springs, LA over Labor Day weekend, September 1 – 6, to serve victims of the recent flooding.  The sign-up link is at the bottom of this letter, but we ask that you read all details first so you know whether you can commit to this project.

Volunteers will help to clean out and gut flood-damaged homes and may assist in some rebuilding efforts and other duties.  Operation Blessing will provide no-cost housing and food for volunteers.

Baton Rouge 2

Registration for this opportunity will close on 8/30; registrations will be received on a first-come, first-serve basis until volunteer spots are full.

  • Volunteers should arrange and pay for their own transportation to the Baton Rouge / Denham Spring, LA area.

  • Volunteer Housing is provided by Operation Blessing at no cost to the volunteer. You will be staying in a church fellowship hall or gymnasium (men sleep in one area; women in another area). You will be provided a cot, but you will need to provide your own bedding (sleeping bag/pillow). Shower trailers are provided. Volunteers should provide their own toiletries (towel, soap, etc.) All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are provided as well.
  • All volunteers must be 18 years or older to stay in volunteer housing. Operation Blessing has a no alcohol and no tobacco policy.

  • Volunteers must have access to a vehicle throughout their stay.  Those flying in may rent a car at their own expense from a local car rental agency.  Due to the severity of this disaster, rental vehicles may be difficult to secure in Baton Rouge, so please secure your rental vehicle before making flight arrangements. Volunteers may share a vehicle.

  • Volunteers should be in good physical condition and able to work in a construction-type atmosphere in high temperatures.

  • Operation Blessing will provide all necessary equipment.

  • Volunteers should wear long pants and solid, rubber-soled shoes or work boots while serving.

  • Volunteers do not need to stay the whole time; they may come for whichever days they are available.

  • Despite the organizers’ best efforts, conditions and work flow at disaster recovery sites can be very fluid.  Volunteers should remain flexible and patient throughout their stay.

Here’s what’s coming in the next few weeks:

School Supplies Collection: Our HOPE worldwide chapter is collecting school supplies for local children. We are looking for donations of the following:

  1.  Black EXPO dry erase markers
  2.  Wide ruled one-subject notebooks (any brand)
  3.  ELMERS Glue sticks
  4.  CRAYOLA markers
  5.  CRAYOLA colored pencils
  6.  #2 Pencils (any brand)
  7.  Pink erasers (any brand)
  8.  Plain colored folders (any brand)

Men’s Breakfast: MEN: come get your Grand Slam on! All men are invited to join the monthly Saturday breakfast on Saturday, August 20th, 9 – 10:30am, at Denny’s (12319 Dorsett Road).

Congregational Devotional: More information will be coming next week, but for now you should know that our Congregational Devotional will take place next Friday, August 26th at 7pm. We’ll have fellowship for the first half hour and the lesson will begin at 7:30. Childcare (infant thru 5th grade) will have a “Twisted Sports” theme, with sign-in beginning at 7:15.

Prayer Requests/Funeral Announcements:

  • Sandra Carr’s brother, Jimmy Herrin (61), passed away on Sunday morning. Please keep Sandra’s family in your prayers, especially Jimmy’s three children and his grandchildren.Visitation and Funeral Services for Jimmy will take place this Thursday, August 18th at Marks Mortuary (633 Lorena Ave, Wood River, IL, 62095). Visitation is 9-11am with funeral to follow, Ed Carr will preside over the service. Burial will be in Jerseyville, immediately following funeral.
  • Please also pray for Paul Kercher, a former member of Gateway who now lives in San Antonio with his family. Paul’s mother, Darlene Kercher, passed away this past Sunday from complications with pneumonia.Visitation for Darlene will be at Schrader Funeral Home at 9:30 am Thursday, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 am (14960 Manchester Road, Ballwin, MO 63011).
