Here’s what’s going on:


No Hunger Holiday: 
GREAT NEWS! We have received enough donations to meet our goal! For now, we have turned off our donation form. Join us for church on Sunday to hear all the details of Phase 2, and how you can get your friends, family, and coworkers involved.

Fall Festival (Saturday October 20th, 5pm – 9pm): As of now over 100 people have RSVP’d “yes” for our Festival! If you plan to join us there’s still time to respond:

Please note that the start time of this event is 5pm. Also, if you would like to enter in the chili cookoff we still have some spots available. You can use the same link above to register; it is necessary to pre-register for the cookoff if you would like to participate.

Men’s Breakfast (October 20th, 9am): Men and boys, please join us for our final Men’s Breakfast of the year. Meet us at the Denny’s near Dorsett and 270 for hotcakes, eggs, sausage, and coffee.

Soup Night (Friday November 2nd, 6:30pm): It’s baaaaaaaaack! Bring a pot of your favorite soup and and serving utensil to share.

Soup Night also marks the return of the Souper Heroes! We need just a few people to answer the call and provide bread or a dessert in addition to soup. If you would like to join this elite group, go here to sign up:

If some of you are a little sleepy today, it’s understandable….last night’s Rockies vs. Cubs game broke the record on the longest “winner-take-all” game in MLB history.

But although it was long game, the record for the longest game ever still stands. There are a few ways to measure this, but in terms of time the longest game was May 8th, 1984, Chicago White Sox vs. Milwaukee Brewers. The game took 8 hours and 6 minutes to play, 25 innings, and had to be completed over 2 days!

And the shortest 9-inning game? September 28, 1919. New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Phillies. 51 minutes.

A few events coming up (none lasting more than a few hours!):

Budgeting Class (Sunday October 7th, following church): This free class is open to all who would like to learn how to create a budget on any income. Contact Alia Aikens with questions: 314-409-4825.

Singles Event Cancellation: The Singles Harvest Festival on October 27th has been cancelled, however the devotionals on October 12th and November 9th will still take place. Contact Kimberly Williams with questions: 314-813-8118.

Gateway Choir (Thursdays beginning October 11th): Come and sing! Gateway Choir is a diverse group seeking singers of all experience levels who are at least 13 years old. We will perform special music for worship services and events. Gateway Choir will rehearse on Thursdays at the church building from 7pm to 8:30pm (excluding the week of Thanksgiving). Our first rehearsal will be Thursday, October 11 as we prepare music for Christmas. Interested? Contact Melissa Pickens (mfpickens@gmail.com).

Men’s Breakfast (Saturday October 20th, 9am): This will be the final Men’s Breakfast of the year. All men and their sons are invited to meet us at the Denny’s near Dorsett and 270. Contact Rob Woods with questions: 314-484-8428.

Fall Festival (Saturday October 20th, 5pm – 9pm): Remember to RSVP! Admission is free but we ask all who are planning to attend to GO HERE and complete our RSVP form. Chili chefs, have you signed up for the cookoff? Space is still available but is going quickly. You can also sign up for the chili contest through our RSVP form. Advance registration is required for entry in the chili cookoff.

No Hunger Holiday (throughout October and November): BIG thanks to all who have donated so far to sponsor families for Thanksgiving! We’ll have an update for you on Sunday of how much has been collected so far. Donations will be accepted through October 17th, CLICK HERE to make a donation now. Just $4 will feed an entire family!

Mark your calendars now for this coming Monday…October 1st is National Homemade Cookie Day! Celebrate this day by sharing cookies with friends, family, neighbors, the Cookie Monster…toast the day with tall glasses of milk and the homemade cookie of your choice. (And yes, store-bought cookie dough baked at home also counts!)

No Hunger Holiday (Throughout October and November): If you were at church this past Sunday, you know that we launched our Thanksgiving service project, No Hunger Holiday, in partnership with Knights of Columbus. We have set the goal to feed 600 families via Ritenour Co-Care.

This project will have a few phases. Phase one is collecting donations for the dinners. Thanks to a partnership with Knights of Columbus, we are able to provide a meal to a family for just $4, regardless of the size of the family.

You can choose to make a donation to feed one family ($4), five families ($20), or 12 families ($48). Donations will be accepted through October 17th; you can also sign up and donate in person at church service for the next three Sundays. Donations of cash, check, or charge will be accepted in person; credit/debit cards are accepted online.

Our Women’s Cafe Night is tomorrow evening, starting at 6:45pm. We’ll start with our program in the sanctuary. Then we’ll move into the fellowship hall where we’ll have the chocolate fountain set up with many, many dippable goodies (but no cockatoos!).

Bring pillows and towels! (But not because we think you are messy eater.) As an outreach effort for this event, we are collecting bed sheets and towels to provide to a local shelter. New or gently-used items are appreciated. You can bring in your donations on Friday night.

We’re excited to welcome Lewis and Tosan Livingston this Friday! All are invited to our Congregational Devotional Friday night, 7pm. We’ll be continuing our Unity Through Diversity conversation, with the Livingstons as our guest speakers.

Stay for the Meet and Greet (and cake!): Following the devotional, there will be a meet and greet with the Livingstons in the fellowship hall. Cake, cookies, and other goodies will be served.

Time to party! This evening, we’ll celebrate the Alexanders, Mosers, and Ritters as they prepare to move on to their new adventures. All are welcome to to this family-style event.

  • If you are in the Kekhaev, Carr, Suber, or Pottinger House Churches, please bring a Savory Dish (appetizer or salad) to share.
  • If you are in the Tynes, Tucker, Blassingame, or Schroeder House Churches, please bring a Sweet Dish (dessert or fruit dish) to share.
  • If you are in Campus or Teens, please bring a beverage to share. A mix of carbonated and non-carbonated beverages would be appreciated!
