Lima Beans

Family,

It’s true! The humble, underappreciated lima bean has a holiday all of its own. This coming Friday is Lima Bean Respect Day. You can read about this obscure holiday and fun facts about the lima bean HERE.

Coming events at the church…sadly–or perhaps thankfully, depending on how you were raised–none of these will feature lima beans…

Heartland Prom/Afterprom (Saturday, April 28th): Prom and afterprom registration will close this coming Sunday, April 22nd. No registrations will be accepted at the door. Click here to register. Cost is $60 per person for both prom and afterprom, or $20 for afterprom-only.

Congregational Devoational (Friday, May 4th, 7pm): Please save the date! All members are encouraged to attend our quarterly “family time”. Childcare will be provided.

Missions Sunday (Sunday, May 20th): Our annual contribution for our sister churches in Russia will be collected about one month from now. The goal is $75,000; you can give earlier if you want to. Select “Missions” from the fund options for giving online. Checks should have “Eurasian Missions” written in the memo line.

Heartland Youth Camp (June 10-16), Heartland Kids Kamp (June 19-23): Early Bird registration continues through the end of this month. For information and registration forms for both camps, go to camp.gatewaycitychurch.info.

One last thing…

We are working to repair some plumbing issues affecting the sanctuary area of the church. For this coming Sunday (and possibly next couple after that), the bathrooms off the sanctuary will be closed. The upstairs bathrooms are still available. Additionally, use of the baptistry will be limited. Please reply to this email if you have questions.

Thanks all! See you this weekend.

Good evening Gateway,

Easter is almost here! Here’s what you need to know about this coming weekend:

Good Friday (Friday, March 30th, 7pm): As in past years, this will be a time of sober reflection about Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross. Worship will include singing, prayer, and scripture reading. Ages middle school and up will join us in the sanctuary; childcare will be available for ages 11 and under.

Easter Sunday (Sunday, April 1st, 9am): Get there early! We will be providing a light continental breakfast of pastries, fruit, coffee, and DONUTS! Breakfast will be served beginning at 8:15am, followed by Easter worship at 9am. After church, we will have an egg hunt outside on the church lawn for all kids age 11 and under. The Easter Bunny will also make a guest appearance for photographs. If your child will participate in the egg hunt, please bring a basket or bag to collect eggs.

Please do continue to share the above graphic via text/direct message/social media. We look forward to seeing you and your friends on Sunday!

Heartland Prom/After Prom (Saturday April 28th): Just a reminder that the Early Bird period for prom registration will be ending a week after Easter. Cost is still $55 per person, but will be $60 per person beginning April 9th. Afterprom lock-in is $20 per person, no price increase after April 8th. Registration for both will remain open through Sunday, April 22nd. Go here to register for both: prom.gatewaycitychurch.info

See you on Sunday! I’ll be the one hoarding all the Boston Creme donuts. 😉

From Justine Alexander:

Hello, sisters!

It was amazing to see God bless with so many women attending our event. What an incredible day!

I wanted to encourage all of you by saying THANK YOU. You worked so hard to bring friends; we had an unprecedented number of guests at this event! Also, it was great to hear all of you share your heart responses; both to the event, and also during the days of fasting and praying leading up to it. God is working!

So many of you donated dresses and Subway gift cards to support Tigerlili Resources. Meredith, the CEO of Tigerlili, was overwhelmed with our support, and sent us this video. Including the donations we collected on Sunday, we provided 276 dresses and over 50 gift cards!

As amazing as the event was, the hard work and power comes now in the follow up! Some suggestions:

  • Please continue to pray for the hearts of guests to turn to Jesus.
  • Follow up with a great conversation, possibly going out for coffee or have them over for dinner.
  • Share your own story with them and see where they are at with God. Do they want to go deeper, to get to know and experience Jesus?
  • You could also use the questions from Spring Forward; go HERE to view them again.
  • Ask your friend to study the Bible, or join you for a Family Group. You can ask you family group leader or me if you need help or have questions!

If you have photos you would like to share, please just reply to this email and include them as an attachment. Kathy has already posted a few on Facebook, but we would love to post some additional pictures from this past Saturday.

Lastly shout out to all of the women (and a few men!) that helped to make this event amazing and glorifying to God! Thank you for using your gifts for god!

Ephesians 3:20-21 ….

Love you all!
Justine

Coming up:

Easter Weekend (March 30th and April 1st): We’re looking forward to next weekend’s events! We are still accepting monetary donations for eggs and candy; click here to donate now. We’ve purchased candy and eggs in bulk this year, to stretch the donations as far as possible. Donations can be accepted through this coming Sunday.

Camp Registration: We are still in the Early Bird registration period, until April 30th. You can go HERE to access all camp registration forms, packing lists, camp dates, and information about the venue.

Also, take a look at this year’s HYC logo…designed by one of our own Heartland families! (I personally LOVE it!)

Eurasian Missions Contribution (May 20th): Our goal this year is $75,000, to support our Eurasian brothers and sisters. Continue to think and pray about how much you want to give.

See you on Sunday, Gateway!

From Justine Alexander:

Sisters,

WOW! You have blown me away with your hard work! Normally we anticipate about 100 women for Women’s Day, but this year we already have over 150 registered. Even more exciting, a little less than half of those are guests! Thank you for working so hard in inviting your friends to our event. You are all AMAZING!!

Please, for the rest of this week, be praying for:

  • God to work through Spring Forward, to bring all in attendance closer to Him.
  • For those who are working on the event behind-the-scenes to have extra energy and creativity.
  • For you extra energy for you and your fellow sisters, as you’ll be called on to be more outward-focused than usual in making our guests feel welcome and loved.

Couple other things to keep in mind:

  • Tickets are still available. We plan to offer tickets at the door for just $3 each.
  • Childcare will not be provided at this event. If your guests have kids, please ask if they have a sitter lined up. If not, please coordinate among your Family Group. Reach out to your Family Group leader if you run into trouble. Girls age middle school and up are welcome to join us for the event!
  • Plan on arriving between 9:15 and 9:30 Saturday morning. Doors will open at 9:15, and we’ll have breakfast first, followed by worship and a lesson.

After the event is over, please do follow up with your guests. Invite them out to your Family Group, to come back for church on Sunday (or Easter!), to study the Bible, or to our “Next Steps” class (see below for more details on that!).

God is truly blessing you efforts. I can’t wait to see everyone on Saturday.

Love you ladies!
Justine

Also coming up…

Next Steps Class (Sunday March 18th, 10:30am): We’ve had lots of new faces at Gateway recently! To meet a growing need, we are starting a new class, “Next Steps”, which will be hosted by Gateway staff. This is intended for newcomers/guests, so they can learn about our church and how to become a Gateway member.

Donuts and coffee will be provided. Members are welcome to accompany their guests! Please contact Tyler Moser if you have questions. Going forward, “Next Steps” will be offered every other month, always immediately following church.

Easter Weekend (March 30th, 7pm and April 1st, 9am): Please do continue to share the above image with your friends and invite them to our Easter services.

Following church on Easter, we will have an egg hunt for kids age 11 and under.

We have plastic eggs covered, but we need candy! If you would like to contribute to our candy fund, click here:

easter.gatewaycitychurch.info

You can donate as little as $5. We will purchase the candy in bulk to stretch your dollars as far as possible. The form will remain open through March 20th.

That’s it for this week. Hope to see many of you on Saturday!

BttfGateway Dads,

This Saturday night…we’re sending you back…to the eighties!

The Daddy Daughter Dance registration closes TONIGHT. As this includes a catered dinner, no registrations will be accepted at the door. This event only goes from 5:30 to 7:30 so your little radical dudettes can still be in bed on time. Click HERE for all event details and to sign up.

Also coming soon:

Exciting news…we’ve added a community outreach aspect to our Women’s Day!

We have partnered with Tigerlili Resources, a local, faith-based non-profit that helps to free women and girls from a life of sex trafficking. Attendees of “Spring Forward” are encouraged to bring:

  • New or Gently Used Dresses: Any style, from casual to formal. Babies’ to Women’s sizes. Tigerlili asks that all dresses are laundered prior to donation, and be free of stains, snags/tears, and missing pieces, pet and human hair, and odors. These dresses will be resold to help Tigerlili raise funds for their various programs.
  • $10 Gift Cards for Subway: Within Tigerlili is a group called “The Scarlet Line”, who act as first responders for those who are seeking to escape a life of sex trafficking. The Subway gift cards will be included in “Love Bags”, along with other personal care items.

Please give what you can; donations of either/both will be gladly accepted!

Read more about Tigerlili Resources HERE.

Also, we’ve had a few questions about the events on March 7th and 8th. We are hoping that our event attendees will use March 7th to think and pray about how God wants you to move forward in your relationship with Him, whether that’s inviting a friend to a bible study, volunteering at a shelter, or joining an already-existing service team at the church. Then on March 8th, you’ll take the first steps to do whatever God has placed on your heart. You can re-watch the video that we showed at the congregational devotional HERE.

We Serve – HOPE worldwide Regional Workshop (Witchita, KS, March 10th and 11th): Open to all who have in interest in HOPE worldwide or serving their communities in general, this event will be packed with ideas to help you make a greater impact. Registration is only $10; view full details and register HERE.

Marrieds Bowling Date Night (Saturday April 21st, 6pm – 8pm): Good news! Registration for this event is now available ONLINE!

Click here to sign up for the Marrieds Date Night now.

Cost is $20 per couple and includes two hours of bowling and shoe rental for two people. Last day to sign up, either in person or online, is Sunday, March 11th.

Talent Show (Saturday March 10th, 6pm – 9pm): All members are invited to attend our churchwide talent show! Performances from various members in singing, spoken word, and more. Free admission to this family-friendly event.

Have a great week, all.
